Beth (Mayer) Graetz graduated from River Falls High School in 1989 and received her bachelor’s degree in nursing from Concordia College in Moorhead, MN in 1993.
As a high school athlete Graetz competed in volleyball, basketball and track earning a total of 10 varsity letters. She received multiple All-Conference selections in both volleyball and basketball and All-northwest team honors and All-State honors in track conference championships in track in 1988 and 1989. Graetz placed at the WIAA State track and field meet 3 consecutive years. As a sophomore she placed third in the high jump. Her junior year she placed third in the triple jump while breaking the River Falls High School record. That record stood until 2013. Graetz won the state high jump title in 1989 with a school record breaking jump of 5’7”. That record still stands today. Graetz was the first River Falls High School female athlete to win an individual state title.
Graetz received an athletic scholarship to North Dakota State University where she ran track for the Bison during the 1989-1990 season. She broke the triple jump record as a freshman and qualified for the NCAA Division 2 National indoor and outdoor championships that year. Graetz earned NCAA Division 2 All-American honors in 1990 by placing 4th in the high jump at the outdoor National Championships. Graetz redshirted her sophomore year due to a knee injury. This injury ended her jumping career and she transferred to Concordia College as a junior to finish her nursing degree.
Graetz lives in River Falls with her husband Matt, also a 1989 River Falls High School graduate, and their three children Mason, Logan and Haley. She has worked as an RN at the River Falls Area Hospital for the past 15 years.
