Brenda (Simone) Johnson


Brenda (Johnson) Simone graduated from River Falls High School in 1986 and received a B.S. in secondary education from UW-River Falls in 1991.  Brenda participated as an athlete for the Wildcats in three sports and earning eleven varsity letters; three in swimming/diving, four in gymnastics and four in track and field.  Brenda made eight individual state appearances earning fourteen state medals including a state championship in the floor exercise in 1985. 

Brenda competed in swimming/diving her freshman thru junior year holding school records in diving, 400 Free Relay & 200 M Medley Relay. 

Gymnastics was her passion. As an all-around gymnast, she competed in all four women’s events; floor exercise, balance beam, vault and uneven parallel bars.  She contributed to the Wildcats winning team conference championship all four years.  Brenda led her team to three sectional championships, and three runner-up state championship finishes.

Brenda competed in track and field where at the time she set school records in each of the events participated in; high jump, triple jump and 100m hurdles.  She was 3-time conference champion in the high jump, placed second in the 100 M hurdles all four years at conference, and 3-time conference champion in the triple jump.  At state she earned medals in high jump, triple jump and 100 M hurdles.

In 1985 she was crowned Miss River Falls and enjoyed representing the community of River Falls in area events. 

Currently, Brenda is an Elementary Physical Education Teacher in the St. Croix Central School District.  In 2004 she was named the Physical Education Cooperating Teacher of the Year from UW-RF and a Kohl Fellowship Nominee for the 2010-11 school year.  She coached high school track for the Panthers several years prior to resigning to spend more time with her family.  Her husband and former Wildcat Jim Simone live outside of River Falls with their two children, Kacey and Vinnie.
